I would suspect, in a future version of RPG, that the
extenders (h) and (e) and the like will be allowed without
the Eval and CallP keywords required.

 (h) X = Y;
 (e) Proto(X);

are both fairly straight forward, and non arbitrary.

#define (h)  Eval(h)
#define (e)  CallP(e)

would work in C, although I'm not so sure about the
recursion.  (would (e) X = Y; define out to:
CallPCallpCallpCallpCallpCallp... etc? <g>)

Jim Langston

Subject: Free-Format Coding

The EVAL operation (and CALLP) are optional within a free-format block.
However, the opcodes MUST be coded if an opcode extender (e.g. H
half-adjust) is coded. Please note that blanks are NOT permitted between
the opcode and the extender within a free-format block.

 Eval X = Y;         // This is OK
 Eval(h) X = Y;      // This is OK
 X = Y;              // This is OK

 Eval (h) X = Y:     // This is NOT OK

 CallP Proto(X); // This is OK
 CallP(e) Proto(X);  // This is OK
 Proto(X);           // This is OK

 CallP (e) Proto(X); // This is NOT OK
