You don't need any "time function". Just before you start retreiving your records, do a WRITE of the desired format (record) with the message you want to show. After you got all your records, do the normal EXFMT of the Subfile. The only point to care about is: when you compile the display file make sure it is compiled (or changed afterwards with CHGDSPF ...) with the option DFRWRT(*NO).
