Re: origin of CHAIN

IMHO,
in the OLD times (I joined IBM in 1968...) with first RPG language (used in 
S/360
Models 20 and 25) there was no CHAIN OpCode, but instead you could "chain"
(link?) a detail record to its "parent master" (say, for a detail order line,
search ItemNo into ItemMaster file...) via special coding using "chaining
fields"" named C1, C2, etc. RPG evolution soon brought "random access by key" as
we know it ever since, but I guess the name of the OpCode, CHAIN, was given "in
loyalty" to former Cx "chaining fields"...
