Here's the bottom half of a service program we use. I think
you'll get the guist.
Now that I look at it. It would probably more elegant if we
used varying length fields.

 ** Determine the length of the value                         
C     ' '           CheckR    #Text         #Len              
                                                              
 ** Evaluate the beginning point to center the text           
C                   Eval      #Beg = ((#Size - #Len) / 2) +
1 
C                   If        #Beg < 1                        
C                   Eval      #Beg = 1                        
C                   EndIf                                     
                                                              
 ** Return centered text                                      
C                   Eval      %subst(#Text2:#Beg:#Len) =
#Text
C                   Return    #Text2
