Hmm.. maybe I don't understand the problem, because it seems fairly straight forward. You define a subfile in a window. When the user presses F4 you load blank records (since you only want input, not output) and display the window. EXFMT, then Read Changed Records. I'm not quite sure what you mean by selecting subfile records using 1,2,3,4,5,6. Is the user to be selecting existing data records? In which case you would load the subfile with the data, and then it is customary to have a select field to the left of each subfile record they can press C or X or whatever in to edit it.
