If control never returns from MakeXXXX until it is all through with a given set of global variables, you could copy the global variables to local variables, set the global variables, and call the next procedure. When control returns to MakeXXXX, do whatever else it needs to do, copy the local variables back to the global variables, and return to the caller. This is still using the stack idea, but makes the system do the work. You don't have use ALLOC or pointers.
