Well, um... strange.  The program was doing some other weird things and
I rearranged the way I was doing things and took out a read and took out
the FRCDTA and it's working like I wanted it to.  I guess I was just doing
things in the wrong order, and the responses explained how they work a
bit better to me so I was able to understand it.

So, it turns out I didn't need the FRCDTA, just needed to take out a
READ.
