When Pine is running on a Linux box it would be possible to telnet into the Linux box from any computer on the internet and run the Pine software to view e-mail. When Pine is running a Windows box you can't easily telnet into the Windows box to run pine. It *would* be possible to set that up by running some type of Telnet server on the Windows box, but you should look at security very, very carefully before you want to do that. I have sometimes wanted to check if I've received e-mail when away from the office and I just telnetted into the POP3 server and checked it that way, but that is a very unfriendly way to do it. The commands are fairly simple, user, pass, list, top <message> <number of lines> etc., but there is no way to scroll back or pause using the standard windows telnet program. One thing I have done in the past is set up my free yahoo account (mail.yahoo.com) to check mail on my other servers (which it will do now) and retrieve the mail that way, being sure NOT to delete the mail when it retrieves it. That way I can check my mail on any PC connected to the internet that has a web browser running (yeah, like how many aren't nowadays?) This is pretty far off the subject of RPG, however, and I think this thread either needs to die fairly quickly, or be moved to some other location, either through private messages or somewhere, because this actually has almost nothing to do with the AS/400 either.
