Yes. 0001-01-01 was a Sunday (by Western naming conventions) if you compensate
for the missing days and use the different leap year rules that were in effect
prior to the change. Using a Proleptic Gregorian (ala the system) calendar
will
show 0001-01-01 as a Monday.

The current standard of seven days and twelve months has been in place for
longer than that (i.e., BC) but some of the month names were changed along the
way due to the ego-centric nature of various Roman Ceasars -- and the Western
calendar is derived from the Roman which is derived from the Greek which was
probably stolen from someone else. There are many places on the Web were you
can learn more about this.

Regards,
Simon Coulter.
