M Hello Hans, You wrote: >The maximum size of an array or multiple occurrence data structure >in RPG is 16773104 bytes. Unless the array is defined inside a DS. A single DS (and indeed a single occurrence of a MODS) is restricted to 32K thus an array in a DS (even a MODS) is restricted to 32K. D anotherArray S 32767 DIM(32767) fails to compile with RNF0376 (length exceeds 16,773,104) The 16 773 104 is the size of a standard space object (2**24=16 777 216) less some overhead (4112 bytes: 16 bytes (pointer?) plus 4096 bytes (internal use? heap use?) ) The question marks indicate guesses. D theStruct DS D anArray 32767 DIM(511) fails to compile with RNF0501 (Length of theStruct exceeds 32767). This is a SEV(20) message. Compiling with GENLVL(20) results in a created program but attempting to display the contents of anArray results in the debugger barfing with an OutOfHeapSpace error. That is probaby due to the compiler forcing the DS to 32K. Adding code to reference the 511 element, as in: C EVAL anArray(511) = 'XYZ' results in an MCH0601 again walking off the end of the Heap. An interesting diversion but I obviously have too much time on my hands -- back to work!!
