RE: Given a profile, can I retrieve its password using an API?

Could that be used, for example, on a CL command that only a certain user
can use that has parameters for username, and password so instead of hard
coding the password into the CL (very insecure I know) using the API and get
the password that way?

Retrieve Encrypted User Password (QSYRUPWD) API sounds like it might be what
you're looking for. Check out the System API Reference manual for more
detail. If you're looking for a password in the clear, however, I think
you're out of luck.
