Here is what the manual says:

831D Description: The operation just
attempted by your program was rejected
because a parameter was not valid, out of
limits, or missing.

Action: Your program can bypass the
failing step and continue, or close the file
and end. Refer to the accompanying message
to determine what parameter was incorrect.
Correct the error in your program before
attempting to try the operation again.

When you say "SFLRCDNBR field is 1, my RRN is 1"
is the relative record number field different
between the program and the the display file?

Subject: subfile error

We have an interactive pgm abending with: CPF5218 Incorrect record number
in subfile SFLRCDNBR or SFLSIZ field. After looking at the dump, my
SFLRCDNBR field is 1, my RRN is 1, my SFLDSP indicator is on, my SFLDSPCTL
indicator is on, and the SFLSIZ is constant at 16. The major return code
is 83 and the minor return code is 1D. I can't figure why the pgm is
blowing up. Would anyone have any ideas? Is there other info in the dump,
such as one of the feedback areas, which may help pinpoint the exact nature
of my problem? Thanks for any help.
