Jim, In the DDS for the subfile control record (the header) you have to have three conditioned keywords: SFLCLR (clear subfile), SFLDSPCTL (display header) and SFLDSP (display subfile). When you want to clear the subfile, make sure the indicator for SFLCLR (apparently *IN55 in your case) is on and the other two are off. When you want to display the header you make sure the indicator for SFLCLR is off and the indicator for SFLDSPCTL is on. But the indicator for SFLDSP should only be on when there are records in the subfile (SF_RecNum > 0), otherwise you get a 'session or device error' (a bit silly really, but most of us have gotten used to it).
