Hi Dave, i think PREFIX should do the trick. I thought i could find an example easily, but i was wrong. If my brain is still working, it should work like this: FFile1 IF E DISK FFile2 IF E DISK PREFIX(C) DFile1DS E DS EXTNAME(File2) DFile2DS E DS EXTNAME(File2) PREFIX(C) Then the field is called CF0001, but that shouldn't matter much, does it? (the above snippet is untested and uncompiled and may contain errors; but you should get the idea.). best regards, Anton Gombkötö At 09:01 23.03.01 -0500, you wrote: >Hi, > >Here's a "simple" example to depict my quandary: > File1 contains a field named F0001. > File2 also contains a field named F0001. > >With an I-spec I redefine F0001 to C0001. > >I have an externally described data structure that >refers to File2.
