Rob, Have a look at CNTFLD in the DDS reference. http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/pubs/html/as400/v4r4/ic2924/info/db2/rbafpmst2 36.htm#HDRCNTFLD Eric DeLong -----Original Message----- From: rob@dekko.com [mailto:rob@dekko.com] Sent: Tuesday, March 20, 2001 8:12 AM To: RPG400-L@midrange.com Subject: Enter/edit a variable length field which may exceed screen size We have an application in which you USED to place an option 8 in front of a record and it would call EDTDOC, or some conglomeration thereof, and bring up OV/400's word processor and let you type notes to your hearts content. Well, now I want to replace the WP with a variable length field. The trick is that the field may be larger than the screen. DDS is too primitive to support this. One coworker suggested a subfile. However the thought of removing 5 words from the middle of a line and having to copy/paste the remaining rows to shift the text rather disgusts me. Just as vile as some of the steps I've gone through when modifying multi line comments in SEU. I am open to ideas. Is there something I am overlooking in DDS? Is there a UIM solution for this? Is there a Dynamic Screen Manager api function for this? Gee, in html all it would take is 1 line of code: <Textarea rows="20" cols="70"></textarea> Yes the thought crossed my mind about converting the whole durn thing to web but let's shelve that idea for now.
