Bruce,

Ok, but the problem I run into there is getting the
highest key value. If I use 'max(key)' I can't use
the for update clause and if I use 'order by key desc'
I can't use the for update clause.

So I'm wondering - is the way I'm trying to do it
unorthodox?

Phil
