I would use dynamic embedded SQL statements. Pass in as parms the library name, table(file) name, the number of days you want to keep the data and the field name that contains the timestamp value. Then build the SQL statement like this: Eval SQLStmt = 'Delete from ' + %TRIM(LibrIn) + '/' + %TRIM(Table) + ' where ' + %TRIM(Fieldname) + ' < (current timestamp - ' + %TRIM(Numdays) + ' days)' This could produce: Delete from Datalib/File where field < (current timestamp - 30 days) Now you have a program that you can use with any file that contains timestamp. Do not forget to include all of the rest of the sql return code checking statements. Also, you'll need to compile this using CRTSQLRPGI. I don't know if this is the fastest method but it's the most flexible. >I have a file with about 10 million records. It is keyed on Company #, >Employee #, and Time stamp. > >I need to delete all records that have a time stamp before a certain time >period. > >Any suggestions on the fastest approach? >Speed is a very important factor.
