 << File: ATT00003.htm >> Keith,

I eat dead people. Now you will NEVER forget the four divisions in a COBOL
program. Identification, Environment, Data Division and Procedure. The
first
is kinda sorta like an H-spec in a way, almost. The Environment tells your
compiler what Environment you are running on. (Source Machine etc). Data
defines all you Data, like I-specs and D-specs and procedure does the work
in a lovely free format style (almost, there are some columns involved).

But my vision of hell is up to your waist in boiling manure while writing
endless COBOL programs. So good luck.

Alistair

I am an RPG developer and I have not used COBOL in the past. Can anyone
tell
me how to write a basic COBOL program. An example would be how to compile a
COBOL program that uses a physical or logical file. Thanks.
