András, there's no official way, but this might work if your program uses parameters: Call your program without any parameters and when you get an inquiry message about the parameter not being passed, answer 'D' to get a dump. Look in the dump listing and if you can see the varlen fields from your externally-described files, then CVTOPT(*VARCHAR) was used. (Otherwise, those VARLEN fields would have been ignored.)
