>> The way I called the original program was by value. This was my original calling program: >> CALL PGM(PGMA) PARM(' ' ' ' ' ') You may have solved your problem, but you weren't calling by value - the AS/400 only allows programs to pass parms by reference (i.e. a pointer to the storage). In your case the compiler would have been generating 3 temporary areas and passing the address of those. I'm not certain of the exact length but I think they would have been 32 characters long - or is it 30? - it's getting late and someone will correct know the right answer. Anyway, whatever the length - it certainly wouldn't have been the 100+ characters that you had them declared in the program - the result of moving data to any one of the fields would be to corrupt other storage - quite likely one of the pointers to the other fields. +--- | This is the RPG/400 Mailing List! | To submit a new message, send your mail to RPG400-L@midrange.com. | To subscribe to this list send email to RPG400-L-SUB@midrange.com. | To unsubscribe from this list send email to RPG400-L-UNSUB@midrange.com. | Questions should be directed to the list owner/operator: david@midrange.com +---
