Hi Jim - >I do not want to hard code library names in the program, >so I guess my question is: If I define this file as USROPN, >and close it and immediately reopen it, will it switch to >the file pointed to in the Library List, or will it just >reopen the same file again? Fortunately I have a service program that includes open and close procedures and a regular program whose only job is to call those two procedures, so it was very easy for me to test this. As I expected, the files were opened from the current library list. Caveat programmer ... my service program runs in activation group *CALLER. I ran the test in the default activation group and in a system-generated new activation group. The behaviour should be the same with the service program in a named activation group separate from the caller, but I don't guarantee it, so if you are running your service program in a separate named activation group you need to make sure that it works correctly that way also.
