Well, folks, let's put it this way, my working title for the 2001 "state of the midrange" article (see www.wash-midrange.org for previous issues) is "Turn out the light, call in the dogs and p*** on the fire because this party is ending..." Frankly, and it's not going to happen over night, the (name dujour) is going the way of os/2, the PS/2, etc.... Kinda scarey, eh? And, I think I can make the argument that IBM is going the way of OS/2 as well... Next time you see one of those IBM adverts that interupts your evening TV viewing, ask yourself "what are they selling?" when it's over with. If you can figure it out, then that's an epiphany...:) If IBM thinks they can survive as a majority cash flow source from services, they've got a BIG epiphany on the way....:) You may want to discover what ALOT of 400 shoppes around here have discovered: Oracle, Java, major web tools...linux, apache, clone servers....... (hint) Our User Group treasurer just told me this week that they've lost 3 more clients. The MIS'ers were told by management that the 400's are on the way out. They (LITERALLY!) have no clue where they're going to, but it's not going to be AS/400 or iSeries...
