But since ++ and -- are *not* being proposed, your "real issue" with is a
non-issue.  Only the "simple expressions" (your terms) will be allowed.

A matter of opinion.  I disagree.  For one character field names, I see no real
difference.  For typical RPG field names, I prefer the += style, just like I
prefer leaving factor 1 blank with arithmetic opcodes when it matches the result
field.  The typing is a non-issue.  I leave factor 1 blank for readability.
