It depends on how you save your data.  I did the same thing from Excel to 
the AS/400 using the printer format .PRN (Formatted Text).  This gave fixed
width columns, and worked the best for what I was doing.  Here is some sample
output:

Name         AgePhone NumberAddress
Joe Scmhoe    33(310) 555-121313 Mockingbird Lane
Nunya Busines 72(562) 555-121122 Boogie Boogie Avenue
John Doe      12(213) 555-12123 Anystreet

Excel determines each columns lenght dependant on the maximum length.  This file
is very easily brought into a OS400 file (CPYF FMTOPT(*NOCHK) works fine).
