Thanks everyone for the answers. Several people suggested giving each cursor a different name -- I expect that will work, but I was trying to avoid it, since as I see it that would mean I'd have to have a separate logic flow for each cursor (i.e. separate open, fetch, close statements). The program I'm creating would need four cursors, but conceivably others would need a lot more. I thought from looking at Barbara's example that I could get away with a single cursor, but maybe I misunderstood. . . . OTOH, Rob's suggestion of using "between" was perfect -- I tried that, and it worked great (thanks, Rob!). A little set-up work, then one simple SQL statement and I was done. Next, I think I'll try Dynamic SQL, since I think in the future I may want to vary the "order by" clauses as well . . . Thanks again -- this list is great!
