Jason, as I see it, you've got two things going for you. #1: Your company has given you free reign to use RPG-IV. (That is not always a given.) Run with it! #2: You have a very VERY obvious application that *screams* for you to use RPG-IV. One other requirement I saw that you listed was that the edited number be left-justified. If I remember correctly, the edit APIs do not left-justify the blanks out. In RPG-IV, you'd use the %trim BIF to do that. And you're right, you probably won't find a bigger group of RPG-IV bigots anywhere than right here! <g> Unfortunately, if you're in a situation like 99% of all of us are, you're probably maintaining a legacy RPG-III/400 system. So you'll still have to deal with that skill set. But hey, that's what we're here for! Sheesh... judging from the reaction from the list members I should really be using RPG IV ;) I don't know how. I'm just teaching myself right now by reading other programs... the bulk of our programming (past and current development) is RPG/400 so that's what I'm learning. I'm told that I'm free to use RPG IV... but in addition to learning everything I still have to get stuff done, and I've been able to do everything I need so far with what I'm using. The real kicker is that everytime I need to look something up, all I have is an ILE reference manual, so I keep finding things that do exactly what I want - and I can't use them but know exactly what I'm missing ;) I think I'll make my next project my first RPG IV project.... Thanks a bunch for everybody's help... a few different solutions there (each of which taught me a lot - CPYTOIMPF, RPG IV, and APIs are all both new and useful to me) (BTW... I've got a solution from another developer here which is similar to the one given by Joel Fritz that seems to work quite well) Thanks, Jason Waugh Systems Development COLLECTCORP, INC.
