As soon as I clicked on send I realized I shouldn't have said 'real', but
record.

By the way I was referring to the RPG ILE reference manual.  And you're
right the relative record number and the key field are updated even if
blocked.  For more information check out:

And? If you want to see the flowers in detail, you have to drive slowly
with the Ferrari.

I see this more in a debug or tricky communication environment than in hi
speed data base processing. And for this, almost all people want to have
the relative record number (or the key field) which is updated with every
record in ILE even when the file is blocked.
