If and that's a big IF. you defined the file to have the same format as the
S36 file and the S36 file has only one, repeat ONE, record format, Yes it
will work.  Use the option *NOCHK on the copy file command.  Each field MUST
be defined exactly as the S36 file is used.  You may encounter decimal data
errors is the file has blanks instead of zeros in numeric fields.  Give it a
try and see what happens.

Personally I like to write the conversion program so I can clean up any
garbage data in the S36 file.
