Fortunately or unfortunately depending on the way you look at it
Date/Time/Timestamp fields are not allowed to contain invalid information at
any time according to the X/Open spec. The good thing about that is that if
you have a timestamp field you know you can read the value out of it and it
will be a valid timestamp...
