The folks at Automated Training Systems faced the same questions you are asking. They provide training courses in RPG/400 and RPGIV (in addition to leading-edge Internet training). Check their courses out at www.ibmuser.com <http://www.ibmuser.com> . Incidentally, their courses offer the same path you outlined below. Suppose you taught only RPGIV and ILE, with no consideration of RPG/400. A student graduating from your school would not be prepared for JD Edwards Worldsoftware, which is still written in RPG/400. And I imagine that the majority of ERP vendor software on the AS/400 is still in RPG/400 format. How about laying your cards out on the table for your students, i.e. If they want leading-edge instruction exclusively, learn RPGIV and ILE only. If they want to get a job with any of the majority of AS/400 shops (which use RPG/400), they may choose to learn RPG/400 in addition to RPGIV and ILE. We teach RPG in two parts - the first semester we teach RPG/400 and the second semester we teach RPG-IV. During the first semester, we also hit some of the high points of RPG-II. I teach the RPG/400 class. Are there some hot topics you would like to see covered to better prepare students for the "real world"? I programmed for many years, but am just teaching now and I depend on my contacts in the trenches to help me construct my lesson plans to meet the needs and demands of this dynamic field. +--- | This is the RPG/400 Mailing List! | To submit a new message, send your mail to RPG400-L@midrange.com. | To subscribe to this list send email to RPG400-L-SUB@midrange.com. | To unsubscribe from this list send email to RPG400-L-UNSUB@midrange.com. | Questions should be directed to the list owner/operator: david@midrange.com +---
