SETOBJACC will load an object into memory:

"The Set Object Access (SETOBJACC) command temporarily changes the
speed of access to an object by bringing the object into a main
storage pool or purging it from all main storage pools. An object
can be kept main storage resident by selecting a pool for the object
that has available space and does not have jobs associated with it.
Repeated use of the command can cause a set of objects to be
resident in a main storage pool"

If there is sequential processing, also consider using CL to block the I/O
(see the OVRDBF SEQONLY parameter).

(Note: this question will get more/better answers if posed in the
midrange-l list, rather than the RPG400-l list)

Subject: Accessing a file in memory

We have a project where a few files are accessed a lot in a job stream and
the job takes over an hour to run. We are looking for ways to speed up the
process. We are wanting to load the few files into memory rather than
accessing the files off the disk because we heard that a company that
purchased the same software did the same. Can you advise us on what might
be the best solution? User space, what?

Thank you,
