This was what I would also have expected.
But is not the result that I obtain.

I work on V4R3.

Oggetto: Re: A question about *VARYING string.

After initialization you have:

WRKALFA30 = '000000000000000000000000000000' len=30
WRKNUM30_9 = 000000000000000000000.000000000

After MOVEL '1' WrkAlfa30 you have:

WRKALFA30 = '100000000000000000000000000000' len=30
WRKNUM30_9 = 000000000000000000000.000000000

After EVAL %len(WrkAlfa30) = 10 (to use your example) you have:

WRKALFA30 = '1000000000                    ' len=10
WRKNUM30_9 = 000000000000000000000.000000000

After MOVE WrkAlfa30 WrkNum30_9 you have:

WRKALFA30 = '1000000000                    ' len=10
WRKNUM30_9 = 000000000000000000001.000000000

If I change your example to use x=7 instead of x=10, then I get what you
cite as your result:

WRKALFA30 = '1000000                       ' len=7
WRKNUM30_9 = 000000000000000000000.001000000

This is on V4R4.
