I haven't done it this way, but I think Phil Hall has.  Take a peek at

Offhand, I would rather hear you participate than to shut up!   Especially
with this barcoding project.  I would personally choose to use AFPDS; it's
device independent and works great.  Look at the DDS keyword BARCODE...
