DSPSFWRSC will show you what version of RPG you have. Scroll down until you
find RPG then press F11.

Others have done it. Examples include operators who wanted to become
programmers. First of all, search around the office and see if they have any
training courses in little white boxes from a company called ATS. Failing
that, search around for books, (not manuals) on programming in RPG. Failing
that you have to start making some decisions. Maybe you might want to buy some
books on programming in RPG. Others on the list can give you some
recommendations, and point you to some websites peddling books. A good place
to start is midrange.com. Perhaps some local colleges have courses. Going to
the COMMON conference is a great start, check out COMMON.ORG.
However, if your goal is to really do this on the cheap, then there are always
the online IBM manuals.
Perhaps in this order:
PDM or Programming Development Manager
SEU or Source Entry Utility
RPG Users Guide
RPG Reference Manual
CL Programming
ILE RPG Users Guide
ILE RPG Reference Manual
DDS Reference Manual
SDA or Screen Design Aid
Interactive Source Debugger
ILE Concepts
ILE Application Development Example
Application Display Programming
Query/400 Use
SQL Programming
SQL Reference
Query Manager Use
System API Programming
System API Reference
These manuals are available online at:
