Kenneth, you will forgive me for noting the irony here, but... you _do_ work
for "Connections 2000"! What kind of connections?!?!?

Connections 2000 is an Consulting Company, that specialize in the AS/400. It
also have a Java Software division for the AS/400. We also have an RPG to
ILE RPG conversion tool. Web-site: www.conn2000.com
(You asked, so that is an explanation in a nutshell.)

I think it is completely foolhardy to assume that all AS/400 professionals
have Internet access at work.
I Concur!

Or even a simple majority. I have found that
it is becoming more and more standard, although there are still "pockets of
non-conformance" out there <g>. Has anyone ever done a real survey on this?
I don't think a statistically viable survey could be done from these mailing
lists, because I'm sure that the vast majority of subscribers on this list
do have Internet access. Have either of the major AS/400 trade rags done
this? I would like to think that News400 did something like this before
they rolled out their AS/400 Network which, BTW, has their entire article
_and_ source archives online (starting from the early '90s). Even then,
such a survey would only capture the magazine's subscriber base. (And, why
not? The subscriber base is what they built the AS/400 Network for,
anyway.)

BTW, two thumbs up for AS/400 Network. Access to the article _and_ source
archives online was a huge bonus.

Nonetheless, it seems absolutely silly that MC would do this. How much do
CDs cost nowadays? 20 cents in bulk quantities (just guessing)? Sheesh,
instead of charging $xxx.00, just charge $xxx.20 and be done with it!
(Currently, the CD-ROM price is $129.00 (Single), or $189.00 for 4-quarterly
updates...)
NOTE: I like the earlier Version of this RESOURCE CD-ROM A LOT BETTER! You
had a utility menu, and could download the code right off the CD-ROM! It was
great! But they switched the format to Acrobat Reader. And you have to
download the code off the Internet...
(Acrobat Reader loses all positional spacing when you "CUT & PASTE". And
since ILE RPG is STILL VERY positional, you have to download the code of the
web!)

Just another little quirk, but I find that CD-ROM drives are even rarer than
Internet access.
VERY TRUE, that is why I travel with a laptop with a CD-ROM...
:-) (If you company provides you with one, or you can afford this...)

I have neither. :-(
(yet)

Optimistically yours,
- Dan Bale

> I was told that I was the FIRST & ONLY person to *ever* complain about
this...
What a crock. The typical nature of most people is to not say anything and
either just live with it (those who _do_ have Internet access or those who
got it because of this) or return the RESOURCE CD without indicating why.

Please note, that over all, I really like the support that I get from
Midrange Computing!

Sincerely,

Kenneth A. Killian,
