Nit-pick time: That was about the DG Eclipse MV computer. The old Eclipse machines were 16-bit, the Eclipse MV line was 32-bit. The MV-8000 existed to kick VAX 11/780 butts - it ran pretty well, but DG never really figured out how to sell it. The AS/400 and Unix killed it and marginalized the VAX.
