  • Subject: RE: 'ILE RPG' or 'RPG IV' . What's the difference!!!

<snip>
What term does everyone else use? Do you differentiate between RPG IV and
ILE RPG? Are you aware of what each refers to?
</snip>

RPG IV is the new expanded syntax and opt codes. It gives you the free
format expressions and the ABILITY to use the ILE environment.

ILE RPG allows you to bind in modules or references to services program that
can be written in any language available to the AS400. I also allows you to
define subprocedures within the program instead of subroutines. This allows
you to use local variables as well as global variables.

At least that is my way of looking at the differences. We converted every
thing to RPGIV so we could take advantage of the longer field names, larger
field sizes, Date opt codes.....

We are now building standard module and moving into the ILE phase.
