Because the system is smart enough to strip off and disregard attributes 
defined in a reference file that have no meaning in the current context.  If 
you assign color attributes they are ignored in an RPG program, but used in a 
display file.  If you define input attributes they are ignored in a print 
file, but used in a display file, etc. HTH, Lance
