Mike,

System/36 Environment support on AS/400 is not ending.

What was probably being referenced is that support for running SSP as
a guest operating system on AS/400 is being withdrawn after V4R4.  This
announcement can be found in letter 299-217 date Aug 3 1999; and I
have attached the relevant part:

" SSP AS A GUEST OPERATING SYSTEM:  V4R4 is the last OS/400 release to
  support AS/400 Advanced 36 System Support Program (SSP) (5716-SSP)
  running as a guest operating system and the associated AS/400
  Advanced 36 SSP products,... "

The letter then points the reader to where additional information on
migrating TO the S/36 environment may be found.
