Probably not what either of us wants to here, but, I sometimes store them into 
a work variable, for example:
eval myvar=%Found
Define myvar as a logical variable.

Another option is to actually trap for these conditions, (as we all should).  
Then follow your if statement.  For example
chain(e)...
if %found
...
else
if %eof
...
else
...
endif
endif
