The timing of message arrivals is, at its core, controlled by the route on which they were sent. The latter is uncontrollable, and is the purvey of both your and David's ISPs. I would suspect that you do not encounter this problem on other list servers because of the sheer volume of mail received here -- the high-tech nature of most of the contributors probably doesn't hurt either.
