The problem you talk about is real delicate to get to work right, and then still doesn't work the same way on all platforms. Faced with the same problem I did this: I rethought the user's problem and decided to do away with the question mark all together. It might not fit for your shop, but I mark the promptable fields with "F4" in blue and then return the name of the field that holds the cursor. After the EXFMT I do a "IF F4" followed by a Select based upon the field name holding the cursor. The user can then just mouse click the field and then click the F4 or key F4 and get the prompt. Yes, it is only one field at a time but the response times are fast, and users adapt to it very quickly. Plus, it is very fast to code. -----Original Message----- From: R. I assume you have the ASSUME keyword coded on a record in all the display files? Did you use OVERLAY keyword on each of the window display records? The restore display would only interfere with performance and the return of the original display, I would suspect either of the above. =========================================================== R.
