It's been many years since I reviewed change management tools, but at the
time Implementor was far superior to the other tools on the market. We
still use Implementor today and it has kept up with our changing needs over
the years until we recently acquired SAP R/3. We will miss Implementor
since the tools in the R/3 marketspace are not nearly as robust.

One important consideration when evaluating change management tools, or any
system software, is to be certain the software and the vendor are careful in
the use of security and respond quickly to security problems. When I
evaluated tools 8 or 9 years ago, several of the tools had exposures that
allowed me to run any command under QSECOFR authority from a developer's
user profile. A couple of vendors were not interested in fixing the
problem. Needless to say, I scratched their products from my list.

Regards,
Stan

Subject: Change Management Tools

Can anybody provide any constructive information regarding AS400 Change
Management tools?

We have reviewed Aldon CMS and Thenon, and so far favour Thenon for its
intuitive design. At the moment we are creating RPG/400 only, but are
planning a move to RPG/4. Is there a reason why we should favour any
particular application?

Are there any other products that stand head and shoulders above (eg
Implementor, Turnover, etc) ?

Regards,
Dave Fulton
