Booth - at the risk of sounding like a broken record - forget the 
reference
manual and download the new RPG Redbook.  There are a series of examples 
in
there on the use and development of subprocedures that take you through 
the
process step by step.  The source code can be downloaded and one of the 
authors
is right here happy to answer questions!
