It did for anyone who had ever used another language that used functions or procedures or methods or whatever you want to call them. It's not fair to assume everyone has prior experience in languages that use them. The majority of RPG programmers I know have had limited exposure to other languages. Many of them find procedures intimidating or confusing. It doesn't mean they can't or won't learn how to use them, they just don't have the previous experience to fall back on for reassurance and it may take them a bit longer to get started. I'm the procedure evangelist in my shop because, like you, I've had a little experience in other languages. The easiest thing for me was the prototype and procedure interface--just like C or PASCAL. RPG people don't think so. I can remember how I felt about O specs when I was learning RPG. Very confusing seeing the stuff to be printed and its formatting in a completely different part of the program than the actual print statement. > -----Original Message----- > From: Jim Langston [mailto:jlangston@conexfreight.com] > Sent: Thursday, February 03, 2000 1:20 PM > To: RPG400-L@midrange.com > Subject: prototypes and functions > > > Actually, this post explained it quite well, and gave me all > the pieces I > need to put my own together.
