Actually negative values can be a problem.  The '}', which I assume is
intended to represent a negative value of 0, is variant and can,
depending upon your current keyboard, come into the system as X'DC'
(German 273), x'47' (Danish 277), x'54' (Italian 280), etc.  For these
code pages the user would need to enter Latin small letter u with
diaeresis, latin small letter a with ring above, and latin small letter
e with grave respectively.
