This is best done with an SQL statement, unless you feel the need to write
an RPG for this. If you don't have the SQL licensed program, WRKDBF will do
this for you nicely. See http://www.wrkdbf.com <http://www.wrkdbf.com> .

                Subject: FW: update files

                Hello,
I looking to update a data file with RPG. Normally
I've been using
UPDDTA and changing the records, when required, but in this
case there is
over 900 records that needed to be updated. My question is
which command to
use, SETLL, READE or CHAIN. There are two things to look for
in this file,
                DTYPE
and DDSTAT. The DTYPE to look for is JRNL and the DDSTAT to
look for is 'A'.
Both JRNL and 'A' need to be true then, change the 'A' to an
'X'.
                Thanks for any advice,
                Art
