Hi Vijosh,

Idealy, I would think that you would want to clean up and/or add some DASD
before reaching 98%. If you use the command DSPSYSSTS (Display System
Status), the % system ASP used will be in the upper right hand corner. It is
my understanding that system performance begins to be degraded at 70%
utilization. The % system ASP should be monitored very closely as it reaches
70 to 80%.

Subject: 98% ASP Utilisation ???

Hi folks,

Last day I faced a strange situation. During month end processing the AS400
suddenly stopped responding. No commands would work. On further
investigation the m/c status showed that, it was running on 98% ASP
utilisation. Ultimately an IPL had to be done because nothing worked. After
the IPL we could delete and clean up space. Has anybody faced such a
problem? In such situations what needs to be done for a clean up without an
IPL?
