Paul, I am assuming you mean locked records, not blocked records. The length of time that a program waits for a locked record is set on the WAITRCD parameter of the database file. The default for this on the CRTPF and CRTLF commands is normally 60 seconds, hence your one-minute wait time. You can change the value for existing files with the CHGPF or CHGLF commands. You can also use the OVRDBF command to temporarily apply special values for special procedures/jobs. Your program can retrieve the details of the job/user locking the record and send this information to the display or joblog if required. (I dont have the details to hand, but am sure I have used the pgm status datastructure to do this in the past) hth Nigel Paul wrote.... When a program tries to read a record that is blocked, it waits a minute and then gives an error message. Is there a way to get the error inmediatly, and under my program's control, so I can notify the user in a easier to understand (for them) message? Thanks. -- Raul A. Jager W.
