Carl, The routing entries are part of the subsystem description. They determine among other things the first program called in the routing step and the class of the job. The class is a separate object that sets the job's run attributes including run priority and time slice. If you enter DSPCLS QBATCH and DSPCLS QCTL you should be able to see details of these two IBM-supplied classes and it will become apparent where the jobs' run attributes come from. If you now enter DSPSBSD QCTL then take option 7 you will see the routing entries in that subsystem. Each entry has a sequence number, a program, a compare value and a starting position (for the comparison). The last entry should be a catch-all with compare value of *ANY. During routing the job's routing data is compared with the values; the first hit is the entry that is actually used. If you enter a 5 against any entry you will see further detail, including the class to be used. You can add your own routing entries to a subsystem description with the ADDRTGE command. If you now type SBMJOB on the command line, prompt with F4, then use F10 for more detail and page down you will see that the SBMJOB command uses default routing data of QCMDB. You can use the RTGDTA parameter on the SBMJOB command to have any routing data you want. After all, you are in control of submitting the NEP. BTW the people who have been recommending QSYSWRK as the subsystem of choice for running NEPs are quite right. QSYSWRK has not always been with us, and I'm a little out of date it seems. I've never used routing entries but it sounds like it's worth exploring. I'm presuming the routing entry set-up is a separate "permanent" structure that could be used for other jobs as well??? +--- | This is the RPG/400 Mailing List! | To submit a new message, send your mail to RPG400-L@midrange.com. | To subscribe to this list send email to RPG400-L-SUB@midrange.com. | To unsubscribe from this list send email to RPG400-L-UNSUB@midrange.com. | Questions should be directed to the list owner/operator: david@midrange.com +---
